English II Class Syllabus -- Mrs. Stoner

This syllabus is an outline of the year ahead. It is subject to change due to availability of literature.

Semester 1

1. Literature
   A. Literary terms (MT literature standards 1 and 2; MT reading standards 1 and 2*)
   
   B. Novel: To Kill a Mockingbird (MT literature standards 1-5; MT reading standards 1-5)
   
   C. Drama: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar (see above)
   
   D. Nonfiction and short stories selected from sophomore literature anthology (see above)


2. Writing
   A. Five-paragraph papers, including personal essays and papers accompanying literature (MT writing standards 1-6)
   
   B. Research paper (see above)


3. Vocabulary: will accompany literature to enhance students’ vocabulary* (MT reading standards 1-3; MT literature standards 1 and 2)


4. Grammar: to be addressed as needed
   

Semster 2

1. Literature
   A. Short stories: selected short stories from sophomore literature anthology (see above literature standards)

B. Novels: The Pigman and Lord of the Flies (see above)




2. Writing: five-paragraph papers, including personal essays and papers accompanying literature (see above)


3. Vocabulary: will accompany literature to enhance students’ vocabulary (see above vocabulary standards)


4. Grammar: to be addressed as needed

Grading: The grading scale for the English department is as follows:

		A = 93-100%	A- = 92%
	B+ = 91%	B = 83-90%	B- = 82%
	C+ = 81%	C = 71-80%	C- = 70%
	D+ = 69%	D = 61-68%	D- = 60%
	F = 0-59%
