Welcome

Hello, parents and students. It is my pleasure to welcome you to my classroom web site. This was a new tool for me last year, and I was very pleased with the benefits it provided for all of us. Before I continue, I must make it clear that this web site would not be possible without the expertise of my mother, Deani Kirkness. She is a retired elementary school teacher turned professional web designer, and she has helped create this site for me. I certainly could not have done it without her.

This web site is designed to help students in my Honors English I and English III classes, and it is also intended to enable parents to know what their children are doing in my classes. Each week I will post my plans for Honors English I and English III on the Honors English I and English III pages. This should help students plan for the week ahead, and parents can see what their children will be working on for the week. There are times when my plans do not go quite as I expect, so it is possible that the schedule may get off track a bit from time to time. This is my first year teaching Honors English I, so I would anticipate more changes for this class than for English III. Whenever possible, I will make changes to the schedule when this happens. Students and parents will also be able to download almost every assignment that I give. We all know that sometimes students forget to take home everything they need to complete assignments or to work on projects.  If this happens with my students, they will be able to access the materials they need by going the the appropriate class page on this web site. Parents and students will also be able to check on work and get assignments when the student is absent. I will also include links to web sites that I think may be beneficial and supplementary for the work that we will be doing at any given time.
